Els estudiants de l'ESMUC ens proposen aquesta obra, que exemplifica la restauració d'aquesta òpera del "Mozart català"

Carles Baguer (1768 – 1808) was one of the foremost composers in the Iberian peninsula during the age of Classicism.  Strongly influenced by F. J. Haydn and I. J. Pleyel, he is remembered as the organist and master of music at Barcelona Cathedral and for his works: 19 symphonies and one opera, which we present today.

La principessa filosofa o Il contraveleno was first performed at the Teatre de la Santa Creu in Barcelona in 1797. According to contemporary records, it ran to five performances.

It is a romantic comedy with a plot focussing on Count Carles of Urgell, who takes part in a tournament in honour of Diana, the heiress of the Count of Barcelona. Diana is initially disinclined to take a suitor but when Carles feigns indifference, she falls madly in love with him.

The performance of this recently reconstituted work is offered by students who are training to become professional musicians at the Higher School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC).
