Premiered in Munich in 1781, based on the same adapted libretto used by André Campra in his Idoménée, tragédie lyrique from 1712, Mozart composed this opera when, at the age of twenty-five, he was presenting his third opera seria, after Lucio Silla and Il Re pastore.
Idomeneo, with its extraordinary score, represents a significant challenge for the composer in merging a new hybrid model (the flexibility of French tragedy with the lyricism of Italian opera).
In this conference, we will explore the entire context surrounding Mozart's work.
