On the occasion of the performances of La Sonnambula at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in April and May, we invite you to delve deeper into this opera by Vincenzo Bellini in a conference that will explore its music, dramaturgy, and staging.
Premiered in 1831, La Sonnambula is one of the most emblematic operas of Romantic bel canto. Set in a small Swiss village, the story revolves around Amina, a young bride-to-be who, suffering from episodes of sleepwalking, finds herself caught in a misunderstanding that puts her love and reputation at risk. With music of exquisite delicacy, Bellini masterfully conveys the ethereal and dreamlike atmosphere of the opera, featuring passages of great melodic purity and vocal demand.
This production, directed by Bárbara Lluch, delves into the opera’s emotional subtlety and dreamlike universe, enhancing the protagonist’s fragility and the poetic essence of its music.
Additionally, during the conference, we will have the collaboration of soprano Montserrat Seró, who will perform the aria «Ah! Non credea mirarti… Ah! Non giunge!» from La Sonnambula.
