Born in Montevideo (Uruguay), he began his career portraying Roucher (Andrea Chénier). He won the Carlos Gomes Joventudes Musicales competition before winning the first prize at the Operalia competition in 1998. Since then, his career has taken him to theaters and auditoriums such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, The Metropolitan Opera in New York, Opéra national de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Washington National Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Royal Opera House in London, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Deutsches Schaupielhaus Hamburg, La Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro Comunale in Florence, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, among others. Among his upcoming commitments, we find L’elisir d’amore and Carmen in Vienna; Il turco in Italia, Tosca, and Les contes d’Hoffmann in Hamburg, as well as Carmen in Graz and Munich. He won the ECHO Classic Award in 2012 for his album Rojotango. He debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2010/11 season with Carmen and has returned with Faust in concert version (2011/12), Tosca (2018/19) and Macbeth (2022/23).
