Valencian-born Gimeno, who is paying his first visit to the Liceu, is the principal conductor of the Luxembourg Philharmonic. He was previously assistant conductor to such distinguished maestros as Mariss Jansons and Claudio Abbado. It was with Jansons that he embarked on his international career in 2012 (when the latter was music director of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam). Since then he has conducted orchestras in various countries, including the Vienna Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, and the orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.
