La jove Aïda reinvents Verdi through virtual reality, retrofuturism, and contemporary emotion.
|
Following the narrative structure of telling an opera within an opera, La jove Aïda brings us closer to Verdi’s iconic Aida through a dramaturgical, musical, and scenic reinterpretation.
Aina, the young protagonist of this story, enters a virtual reality she has developed herself, where she feels directly addressed by the situations and emotions experienced by the characters in Verdi’s opera, gradually assuming the role of the protagonist. By revealing how permeable the boundaries between reality and fiction can be, Aina’s experience in the virtual world leads us to reflect on what reality is lived within virtuality, what is real in what we experience through fiction, and what is fictional in what we experience in reality.
As for the music of the production, it features the most iconic moments of the opera Aida, with arrangements and adaptations that, without renouncing the essence of Verdi’s music, create a new atmosphere to accompany this new narrative.
La jove Aïda is presented with a technological and audiovisual staging that places us in a retrofuturistic aesthetic inspired by early video games, while also allowing a contemporary reinterpretation of the legendary set design created by Josep Mestres Cabanes in 1945 at the Liceu for the opera Aida.
In collaboration with the Fundació Òpera a Catalunya, and on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Petit Liceu, La jove Aïda will premiere on tour in various theatres across Catalonia before arriving at the Liceu next season.
