A selection of German and French poems and literary texts accompanied by chamber music with the voices of a choir.
Recital by Manuel Forcano based on a selection of German and French poems and literary texts accompanied by chamber music with the voices of a choir. Works of great material density and pictorial power that will enter into dialogue with works by composers such as Wagner, Bach, Strauss and Mahler, as well as Schönberg or Ligeti; the spirituality of Pärt, or the materiality of Xenakis.
The exhibition
Since the 1980s, display cases have played a decisive role in the work of Anselm Kiefer (Donaueschingen, 1945). Inside them are arranged objects, materials and symbols that act as time capsules and that synthesise central themes of his work related to history, mythology, identity, and individual and collective memory.
Kiefer’s display cases are condensed symbols and often combine opposing concepts. Kiefer uses a wide range of materials such as lead, cement, glass, stones, wire, pieces of fabric, tree roots or burned books, which represent ideas such as renewal, remembrance, hope and loss. The collected materials are, therefore, artistic transformations of beliefs and spiritual ideas, and the disconcerting display cases encourage thought and inspire new interpretations.
This exhibition at Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, featuring works by Kiefer from the Grothe collection and other private European collections, is the first solo exhibition of the artist in the country dedicated exclusively to this body of work, titled Opus Magnum.
