Ladislav Elgr studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, and during that time, he already performed in several municipal theaters in the Czech Republic. In the 2008/09 season, Ladislav Elgr was engaged for two seasons with the ensemble of the Volksoper Vienna, where he performed roles such as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, and Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He has a regular collaboration with the Theater an der Wien, where he was invited, among other roles, in 2011 as Bes in the premiere of Lera Auerbach’s Gogol, in 2012 for Francesca da Rimini, in Iolanta as Dante, as Alméric in a concert performance of Dvořák’s Die Geisterbraut, as Nathanael in Lazarus (Claus Guth), and recently as the Prince in Rusalka (Amélie Niermayer). Other performances included a highly successful Dafne in concert at the Helsinki Festival (Susanna Mälkki), his debut at the Opéra de Paris Bastille in Vec Makropulos, his debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Steva in Jenufa (Donald Runnicles), and his debut in Antwerp, where his moving portrayal of Sergei in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Calixto Bieito) led to unanimous enthusiasm from the audience and press. He makes his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
