Leo Castaldi

Born in Milan, he graduated from the University of Siena in modern literature. Interested in photography, video, and interactive installations, in 2003 he received a fellowship as a young artist in San Quirico d’Orcia (Il Cantiere Rema Salvadori). In 2005 he settled in Barcelona, and since then began a professional relationship with Lluís Pasqual, of whom he has been assistant director from 2007 to the present. Under Pasqual, he has directed revivals of titles such as Le nozze di Figaro, Il prigioniero, Suor Angelica, Manon Lescaut, and Doña Francisquita at the Gran Teatre del Liceu; Simon Boccanegra at the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia; La donna del lago at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan; Château Margaux and La viejecita at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid; and again Doña Francisquita in Lausanne.

He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2008/09 season with Le nozze di Figaro, and has since returned frequently, most recently with Doña Francisquita (2019/20), La traviata, Lessons in Love and Violence, Lucia di Lammermoor (2020/21), Macbeth (2022/23), La forza del destino, and La traviata (2024/25).
