Born in Kroonstad, South Africa, Levy Sekgapane studied with Kamal Khan and Hanna van Niekerk at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town. In the course of his young career, he has already developed two signature roles: Il Conte Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, which he sang in a new production at Glyndebourne Opera Festival, Opéra national de Paris, Vienna State Opera, German Opera Berlin and Opéra national de Bordeaux. And Don Ramiro in La cenerentola, performed at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Munich State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Los Angeles Opera, Lyric Opera Boston and Zurich Opera, where he shared the stage with Cecilia Bartoli. 

Recently he debuted Nadir in Les pêcheurs de perles(Cape Town), Ernesto in Don Pasquale (Vienna, Bari), Rodrigo in Rossini's Otello (Frankfurt), Arturo in I puritani (Paris), Elvino in La sonnambula (Munich), Arbace in Idomeneo (Salzburg), Idreno in Semiramide (Berlin), Belmonte in Die entgührung aus dem Serail (Paris) and Jonah in Time of our singing (Brussels). 

He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2017/18 season with Il viaggio a Reims.
