Few Catalan stage directors enjoy greater prestige and renown worldwide than Pasqual, who was a co-founder of Barcelona's Teatre Lliure in 1976. He has also headed the Centro Dramático Nacional in Madrid, the Théâtre de l’Odéon in Paris, and the Biennale Teatro in Venice. His achievements as stage director have earned him distinctions such as the Premio Nacional de Teatro y Danza in 1984, the Spanish Ministry of Culture's Premio Nacional de Teatro in 1991 and the Catalan government's Creu de Sant Jordi in 2015. In France he has been made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (1996) and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (1984).
