Mario Gas

Actor and stage director, he has developed his career in theatre, film, and television. Trained in the university and independent theatres of the 1960s, he has signed more than one hundred productions of theatre, opera, zarzuela, and musicals. As a theatre manager, he headed the 1976 Grec Festival, three editions of the Autumn Festival, the Olympic Arts Festival, and served as artistic director of Madrid’s Teatro Español.

In the operatic field, he has directed Il turco in Italia, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Il trovatore, La traviata, Un ballo in maschera, Il matrimonio segreto, Jenůfa, Madama Butterfly, and Die Entführung aus dem Serail. He has worked in theatres such as Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela and Teatro Real, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Seville’s Teatro de la Maestranza. He has received the National Theatre Award of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 1987/88 season with Un ballo in maschera. He subsequently directed Il matrimonio segreto (1988/89), Jenůfa (1989/90), Un ballo in maschera (1990/91), and L’elisir d’amore (1997/98, 2004/05, 2012/13, and 2017/18).
