Japanese mezzo-soprano Mihoko Fujimura made her Bayreuth Festival debut in 2002 as Fricka in Der Ring des Nibelungen, returning for nine consecutive years as Waltraute, Erda, Brangäne and Kundry. She has appeared at leading opera houses including the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro alla Scala, Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Salzburg Festival, Semperoper Dresden, Teatro Real Madrid and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

Her operatic repertoire includes Kundry, Brangäne, Venus, Fricka, Erda, Carmen, Mélisande, Amneris, Eboli, Azucena, Idamante, Octavian and Klytaemnestra. In concert, she has performed with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Her concert repertoire features works including Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Rückert-Lieder and Kindertotenlieder, Wagner’s Wesendonck-Lieder and Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder. She has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons, Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel and Andris Nelsons.

Her discography includes recordings for EMI Classics and Fontec. In 2014 she received the Purple Ribbon Medal of Honour from the Japanese government for her artistic achievements.

She made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2012/13 season with Das Rheingold and has returned with Die Walküre (2013/14).
