The Gran Teatre del Liceu engages with the new edition of Calidoscopi Cultural, the annual series of cultural activities organized by the Sant Andreu district of the Barcelona City Council. This year's edition focuses on collective resilience, understood as the ability to face adversity, adapt to change, and emerge transformed.
For a whole month, from May 8 to June 8, the neighborhoods of Sant Andreu are filled with cultural events that promote community-based artistic creation, citizen participation, and collective reflection through disciplines such as music, theatre, dance, visual arts, and citizen science.
This cultural series promotes local culture and the active involvement of residents as a tool for social transformation and as a means to uphold the performing arts. Each edition revolves around a central theme that shapes the scheduled activities, developed in collaboration with civic centers, libraries, cultural organizations, and other local facilities.
This year, Calidoscopi Cultural is closely linked to the ÒPERA PRIMA project by the Gran Teatre del Liceu, which is currently working on the creation of a community opera with the Sant Andreu district. This collaboration between the Liceu, the Barcelona City Council, and the Sant Andreu district is reflected in several aspects of this year’s program.
The theme of resilience, proposed by the Liceu’s artistic direction and agreed upon with the district, resonates strongly with the operatic world, as it is a recurring concept in many operas. For the first time, this thematic focus will span three years, aligning with the timeline of the ÒPERA PRIMA project, which will culminate in June 2027.
This year’s program also includes several opera-related activities, such as the exhibition “Costumes for an Opera” the concert “Women in Opera History” the guided visit “Step Inside the Liceu” and the talk “Opera Within Reach” promoted by LiceuApropa, among other initiatives aimed at making opera more accessible and engaging for the public.
Through this collaboration, the Gran Teatre del Liceu reaffirms its commitment to community culture and its mission to bring opera closer to everyone.
