Xabier Anduaga, born in 1995 in San Sebastian, began singing with the Orfeón Donostiarra Choir and performed as a soloist in sacred music concerts during his childhood. He studied at the Centro Superior de Música in the Basque Region, focusing on vocal technique under Elena Barbé, his long-time teacher, and attended masterclasses with Alberto Zedda, Ernesto Palacio, and Juan Diego Flórez, among others.
In 2016, he joined the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro, debuting as Belfiore in Il Viaggio a Reims. Early in his career, Anduaga excelled in Rossini roles and expanded into bel canto, performing at venues such as Teatro Colón, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Rossini Opera Festival, Vienna Musikverein, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro Real, and Hamburg State Opera.
In 2019, he won First Prize at the Operalia Singing Competition in both the general and Zarzuela categories. Other accolades include the 2021 International Opera Award for Best Young Singer and the Ópera XXI Award. Recent engagements include debuts at the Metropolitan Opera (L’elisir d’amore), Royal Opera House, and Gran Teatro del Liceu (Don Pasquale), as well as returns to Teatro Real (La sonnambula), Teatro di San Carlo (I puritani), and Opera Las Palmas (Lucia di Lammermoor).
Upcoming highlights include his debut as Alfredo in La Traviata at Teatro Real and Opera Las Palmas, and performances at Bayerische Staatsoper, and Wiener Staatsoper.
He debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu during the 2020/21 season in the concert Del dolor a la esperanza and returned with Don Pasquale (2022/23).
