The Cor del Liceu joins the celebration of the 25th anniversary of El Petit Liceu with Al cor del Liceu, a new immersive production that highlights the power of the human voice and the collective dimension of choral singing. The Gran Teatre del Liceu will present two performances of this new family-oriented show at the Theatre’s Foyer on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.
The production features dramaturgy and stage direction by Marc Rosich, musical direction by Pablo Assante, musical arrangements and composition by Jordi Cornudella, and choreography by Roberto G. Alonso. The artistic team is completed by lighting designer Sylvia Kuchinow, costume and stage designer Joana Martí Delgado, narrator Ester Cort, and costume styling by Giulia Grumi and Joana Martí Delgado. Naturally, the production features the Cor del Gran Teatre del Liceu, with David Huy Nguyen Phung on piano and Clara Gatti Comini on harp.
The dramaturgy created by Marc Rosich evokes a symbolic fable about humanity after it has stopped listening to nature and to itself, living in a dark and devastated world. Guided by the memory of an ancient song capable of awakening the Earth, the survivors embark on a journey of rediscovery and hope. Only when they manage to unite their voices in harmony does music restore light and life to the world, reminding us of the profound connection between human beings and nature.
Al cor del Liceu brings audiences of all ages closer to the emotional universe of operatic chorus through an intimate experience built around movement, space and live music.
The chorus is one of opera’s great essences: the heartbeat that gives life to stories and transforms individual emotions into a shared experience. It is the voice that expresses the deepest feelings while uniting souls in a collective cry of love, passion, tragedy and hope.
With this production, audiences will journey into the very heart of opera through a dynamic and immersive dramaturgy that showcases the expressive power of the chorus as one of the deepest manifestations of musical art.
This season, the Gran Teatre del Liceu celebrates the 25th anniversary of El Petit Liceu, a key milestone in the Theatre’s history that reinforces the institution’s commitment to bringing opera closer to people of all ages. El Petit Liceu continues to grow through the creation of new productions that revisit the essence of opera from fresh perspectives and in dialogue with other visual and performing arts.
To mark this anniversary, the Gran Teatre del Liceu will have premiered four new productions during the 2025/2026 season: Simfònic en família, Al cor del Liceu, La jove Aïda, and a new production of Trencanous-Jazz, which this season has already premiered a new production in the Sala Gran with a completely renewed concept and staging.
LiceuAprèn: an educational and transformative vision
Following the legacy of a tradition of children’s productions promoted by El Petit Liceu, the Theatre’s educational project, LiceuAprèn, has been working for several years on the development of a global programme that embraces all age groups. Through a cross-disciplinary educational plan, the project is committed to accessibility, learning and inclusion as its core values.
All LiceuAprèn initiatives are based on the idea of a journey: transforming the one-time experience of attending a performance into an ongoing learning process. This journey always begins with the artistic excellence of Liceu productions, understood as the essential starting point for generating impact, interest and inspiration. Far from fast and fleeting consumption, the programme seeks to value time, preparation and deeper engagement, encouraging reflection on the lived experience. The performance is conceived as a first-class artistic experience capable of activating processes of expression, creativity and critical thinking, while the multidisciplinary nature of opera allows learning to be approached from multiple fields of knowledge.
In just five years, the LiceuAprèn programme will have premiered eleven new productions: La barcarola, El monstre al laberint, Miralls, Trencanous-jazz (2), La nit de Sant Joan, La cuina de Rossini, La torre dels somnis, La jove Aïda, Simfònic en família, Al cor del Liceu.
