The Liceu Brass Ensemble, made up of musicians from the brass section of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra, will offer the first chamber music concert of the Liceu season under the direction of Ian Bousfield, one of the most influential brass musicians of our time. The performance will take place at the Liceu Conservatory Auditorium on February 6 at 7:00 PM.
With the support of maestro Josep Pons, musical director of the Liceu, the Liceu Brass Ensemble works to offer virtuosic and demanding programs. On this occasion, it will be conducted by Bousfield, former principal trombone of the Vienna Philharmonic and the London Symphony, who has collaborated with prestigious conductors such as Riccardo Muti and Kent Nagano.
The concert under Ian Bousfield’s direction will include an eloquent and nuanced program, where the wind instruments will shine with Street Song for Symphonic Brass by Michael Tilson Thomas, the Suite from Romeo and Juliet by Sergey Prokofiev, arranged by Andreas N. Tarkmann, Gegensatz by Paul Terracini, and Spitfire, Prelude and Fugue by William Walton, arranged by Elgar Howarth.
The chamber music cycle was born in the 2018/19 season as part of the 20th anniversary of the reopening of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Its goal is to give visibility to the ensembles formed within the house’s Symphonic Orchestra. The project, conceived by maestro Josep Pons, aims to foster proximity with the audience, where music in its purest form speaks directly to us. With a smaller venue, affordable prices, and a duration of about one hour, these recitals offer an intimate taste of chamber music.
