More than 300 students from Alt Urgell and Cerdanya have visited the Gran Teatre del Liceu to attend the children’s performance 'La cuina de Rossini' as part of the Liceu als centres project. Linked to LiceuAprèn, the initiative brings the performing arts closer to rural schools through teacher training, educational workshops and theatre discovery activities, fostering lasting ties between education and culture.
More than 300 students from various educational centres in Alt Urgell and Cerdanya travelled to Barcelona today to attend a performance of La cuina de Rossini at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, an artistic production aimed at children. The visit took place within the framework of the “Liceu als centres” project, an initiative promoted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu for the past four academic years, which this year has been implemented for the first time in Alt Pirineu and Aran with the support of the Programme to enhance the presence of arts and culture in education, jointly promoted by the Departments of Culture and of Education and Vocational Training.
“Liceu als centres” is a programme of LiceuAprèn that brings together all projects in which the Liceu works directly with educational centres to develop a shared project around a performance. It reflects the Liceu’s clear commitment to accessibility and aims to bring the performing arts and music closer to schools in rural areas, integrate them transversally into school educational projects, and promote stable links between the education system and the country’s cultural institutions.
The initiative has enabled participating centres to develop comprehensive projects throughout the academic year, working in collaboration with the educational team of the Gran Teatre del Liceu around the performance seen by children and young people this Wednesday. In this context, the LiceuAprèn team has travelled several times to Alt Pirineu to deliver training sessions to more than 150 teachers, providing tools related to music and the performing arts to help them prepare and contextualise the performance. Today’s programme was completed with educational workshops and theatre discovery activities, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of the creative process, operatic language and the workings of a major cultural venue. Finally, in March, the centres will receive visits from artists involved in the production, who will lead creative workshops with children and young people.
Participating educational centres
The first edition of the “Liceu als centres” project in Alt Pirineu and Aran has helped strengthen the presence of arts and culture in around ten educational centres. The initiative has promoted interdisciplinary work, networking between educational and cultural institutions, and access to high-quality cultural experiences. Specifically, the following centres took part in this activity:
• Escola Sant Esteve – ZER Urgellet (Alàs i Cerc).
• Escola Castell-Ciutat – ZER Urgellet (La Seu d’Urgell).
• Escola Arnau Mir – ZER Urgellet (Ribera d’Urgellet).
• Escola de Tuixent – ZER Urgellet (Josa i Tuixent).
• Escola Rosa Campà (Montferrer i Castellbò).
• Escola Sant Miquel – ZER Narieda (Peramola).
• Escola Climent – ZER Narieda (Coll de Nargó).
• Escola Miret i Sans – ZER Narieda (Organyà).
• Institut Escola d’Oliana (Oliana).

In parallel, secondary school teachers and students from Alt Urgell, as well as from the Official Language School, are also participating in the “Liceu als centres” programme. In this case, the programme focuses on the performance La Torre dels Somnis, which they will attend at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in June.
