Nadine Sierra and Ludovic Tézier: a legendary duo shining in a unique recital at the Liceu

Barcelona, October 2, 2025

Renée Fleming has canceled her entire European tour, including the concert scheduled for December 12 at the Liceu, due to knee surgery. Tickets will be valid for the exceptional recital on February 18, 2026, with Nadine Sierra and Ludovic Tézier, accompanied by pianist Véronique Werklé. The program features arias and duets from bel canto to Verdi, with French repertoire, promising a unique and legendary evening.

In the midst of the 2025-2026 season, the Gran Teatre del Liceu is delighted to announce an extraordinary and unrepeatable concert joining its program: on February 18, 2026, two of the most acclaimed voices on the international opera scene, Nadine Sierra and Ludovic Tézier, will reunite on the Barcelona stage to offer an evening that promises unforgettable emotions. They will be accompanied on piano by Véronique Werklé, who has an outstanding international career performing with top opera figures.

American soprano Nadine Sierra, queen of the Liceu, with a dazzling career on the world’s leading stages —from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to La Scala in Milan— is recognized for her vocal brightness, the flexibility of her singing, and a captivating stage presence that turns every appearance into a celebration of beauty. Her voice, clear yet intense, has been described as a perfect synthesis of technical virtuosity and expressive authenticity.

Alongside her, French baritone Ludovic Tézier, regarded as the leading reference of his voice type, will bring his noble and powerful timbre, capable of blending authority and lyricism with a naturalness that moves through its elegance and depth. Tézier has set interpretive milestones in Verdi roles and the French repertoire, and his stage presence always conveys an almost theatrical intensity, even in concert format.

These two artistic personalities will offer a high-voltage vocal dialogue, where love, tragedy, and the power of opera will be condensed into a single night. It will be a journey through immortal pages of the repertoire: arias and duets from bel canto to Verdi, including scenes from the French repertoire.

This unexpected concert, intended as a gift for the audience, promises to be an unrepeatable and legendary event. A memory etched in the collective memory of the Liceu as one of those moments when art becomes a true life experience.

The virtuosity of soprano Nadine Sierra

With a career marked by success and acclaim, Nadine Sierra has been praised at the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Opéra de Paris, the Staatsoper in Berlin, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.

Last season, Nadine Sierra captivated the audience at the Gran Teatre del Liceu with her sensational portrayal of Violetta Valéry in Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata and her unforgettable Amina in Vincenzo Bellini’s La sonnambula. She also gave her first solo concert with the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra under conductor Pablo Mielgo, receiving a standing ovation. As a crowning moment, Sierra was hailed as the queen of the Liceu, performing a dazzling Maria from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story in concert version, in an apotheotic season finale.

Her career has been crowned with awards such as the Richard Tucker Award (2017) and the Beverly Sills Artist Award (2018) from the Metropolitan Opera, and she has debuted in prominent roles that have defined her recent seasons.

At the Liceu, audiences have also enjoyed Sierra’s virtuosity in the role of Manon Lescaut from Massenet’s opera during the 2022-2023 season. Previously, she performed the role of Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and made her theater debut in the recital Del dolor a la esperanza, both during the 2020-2021 season.

In addition to her striking stage presence, Nadine Sierra has demonstrated her versatility with the recordings There’s a Place for Us (2018) and Made for Opera (2022), with Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music, establishing herself as one of the most admired sopranos of her generation.

Ludovic Tézier, one of today’s most brilliant baritones

French baritone Ludovic Tézier is one of those artists who has woven a true love story with the Liceu audience thanks to his exemplary performances in the most important titles of his repertoire.

He made his Liceu debut in the 2006-2007 season as Lescaut in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, and since then he has captivated Liceu audiences as the Count of Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (2008-2009); as Prince Yeletsky in Tchaikovsky’s Pikovaya Dama (2009-2010); as Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff (2010-2011); as Valentin in Gounod’s Faust in concert version (2011-2012); as Don Carlo de Vargas in Verdi’s La forza del destino (2012-2013); in the title role of Verdi’s Macbeth (2016-2017); and as the Count of Luna in Verdi’s Il trovatore in concert version (2020-2021).

Tézier was also one of the leading voices at the concert celebrating the 175th anniversary of the Gran Teatre del Liceu’s inauguration, and returned last season for an unforgettable Gala Lírica commemorating the 178th anniversary, once again astonishing Liceu audiences with both the excellence of his voice and his ability to embody each of his characters with subtle nuance, whether as the moving Athanaël in Thaïs or the majestic Carlo Gérard in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, with a performance of the aria Nemico della patria that earned one of the evening’s most enthusiastic ovations.

The concert culminated in an intense and dramatic duet with Marina Rebeka, Mira di acerbe lacrime from Verdi’s Il trovatore, in which both artists demonstrated why they are considered among the leading voices on today’s operatic stage.
