The Liceu Orchestra and Josep Pons celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Petit Liceu with 'Simfònic en família'

Barcelona, March 18, 2026

As part of the 25th anniversary of the Petit Liceu, the Gran Teatre del Liceu presents Simfònic en família this Sunday, March 22, at 5 p.m. in the Sala Gran, under the direction of Josep Pons, with an accessible and dynamic program that takes the audience through the symphonic repertoire with dance as a guiding thread and a staging by Anna Ponces designed for all audiences, including a prior family workshop offering the chance to speak with some of the performers.

The Orchestra, the opera’s sounding soul, is an essential part of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. With its presence, it brings key moments on stage to life and becomes one of the pillars of the operatic experience.

As part of the 25th anniversary of the Petit Liceu, the Liceu Orchestra joins with a family symphonic concert designed for audiences of all ages to enjoy a shared musical experience.

It is an opportunity to enjoy a quality concert as a family, both for those experiencing it for the first time and for regular audience members. A program that accompanies first musical experiences while also offering an engaging listening experience for more seasoned audiences.

The program offers a vibrant journey through some of the most evocative pages of the symphonic repertoire, with dance as a clear guiding thread. From the rhythmic energy of Johannes Brahms’ Hungarian Dances and Antonín Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances to the melodic richness of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with excerpts from The Nutcracker, the concert moves through different sonic and cultural universes.

Also featured are the intensity of Aleksandr Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, the expressive power of Manuel de Falla and Alberto Ginastera, and the hypnotic construction of Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, which concludes the program. This selection of works allows audiences to experience the orchestra’s power, color, and narrative capacity through recognizable and high-impact pieces.

The concert includes a simple yet effective staging by Anna Ponces. Using lighting, some visual elements, and brief narrative fragments interspersed within the pieces, Ponces presents the orchestra as a living organism, constantly transforming and creating unique, unrepeatable moments through music.

In the family workshop prior to the Simfònic en família concert, families will discover some of the pieces the Gran Teatre del Liceu Symphony Orchestra will perform and will have the unique opportunity to meet and speak with some of the performers.
