The Gran Teatre del Liceu digitally premieres 'Tristan und Isolde' by Richard Wagner on Sunday, February 15 at 6 PM on LiceuOPERA+. With stage direction by Bárbara Lluch, Susanna Mälkki leading the Orchestra, and the voices of Lise Davidsen and Clay Hilley, the production offers a unique cinematic experience. Davidsen’s world debut as Isolde, ahead of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, marks an operatic milestone.
This Sunday, February 15 at 6 PM, the digital platform LiceuOPERA+ will premiere the Gran Teatre del Liceu’s new production of Tristan und Isolde by Wagner, with stage direction by Bárbara Lluch, the voices of Lise Davidsen and Clay Hilley, and conductor Susanna Mälkki leading the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra.
Lise Davidsen made her debut as Isolde at the Gran Teatre del Liceu between January 12 and 31, 2026. Now, this production will be available digitally on LiceuOPERA+. The recorded version will premiere on February 15, 2026, on LiceuOPERA+, where subscribers can watch it on demand afterwards. This digital availability allows audiences who could not attend live at the Liceu to experience Davidsen’s interpretation of Isolde through the platform.
This new production can be seen exclusively on LiceuOPERA+ before its arrival at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, scheduled for March 9. Lise Davidsen’s performance has received unanimous acclaim from the international press, highlighting both her vocal power and expressive nuance. The Observer asked if Davidsen is “the soprano of the century,” ABC celebrated the return of a “humanly untouchable” Isolde to the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and El País described her voice as monumental, capable of evoking sensations that seemed definitively lost in Barcelona.
The production includes the usual exclusive content with master of ceremonies Ramon Gener, behind-the-scenes interviews, and a special pre-show airing the same Sunday. This time, it will feature members of the podcast El Vomitorio, Mario Marzo and Nacho Castellanos, live from the Liceu, offering an interview with Anna Ponces, assistant stage director of Tristan und Isolde.
Experience opera like cinema and enjoy exclusive content at home on LiceuOPERA+
The new stage of the digital platform LiceuOPERA+ is being redefined under the artistic direction of Igor Cortadellas and incorporates a cinematic approach unprecedented in platforms dedicated to opera and classical music. LiceuOPERA+ thus marks a turning point in the way opera is recorded and experienced digitally: beyond a technical evolution, the project unfolds a new audiovisual language, a fresh narrative style, and a strengthened artistic ambition.
This new visual grammar incorporates elements from the seventh art, previously unseen in digital opera and classical music platforms: a cablecam that moves across the hall, frontal tracking shots, cameras integrated into the stage and orchestra pit, and movement and proximity work that reinforce the stage narrative. The result is an image of great sensitivity, more intimate, delicate, and artistic, comparable to the aesthetics of major contemporary cinematic productions.
Each title can be followed with subtitles in four languages —Catalan, Spanish, English, and the original language— and includes a moderated live chat that invites viewers to comment on the performance in real time, creating an international community of opera lovers. Multi-camera production and viewing options are also maintained, allowing viewers to choose unique perspectives such as backstage or the conductor’s position, as well as following the score in parallel with the performance; in the published edition, the opera can be watched by acts for easier consultation and re-reading.
Finally, the project also promotes cultural democratization through pricing: with a rate of 45 euros for subscribers and 90 euros for non-subscribers per season, LiceuOPERA+ ensures universal access to all digital productions. In the virtual space, there are no differences of location, only the desire to discover and experience opera, offering an equalizing experience that broadens the cultural reach of the Theatre. This combination of layers —exclusive content, collective digital premieres, and advanced viewing tools— establishes LiceuOPERA+ as a unique and leading platform for streaming opera and classical music internationally.
In addition to the six titles from last season (Lady Macbeth de Mtsensk, Madama Butterfly, La traviata, Lohengrin, La sonnambula, and Rusalka), and La guineueta astuta from this season, subscribers will also be able to enjoy digitally and through Igor Studio recordings of:
