Within the Grec Festival of Barcelona
The Liceu and the Disseny Hub promote, with Òh!pera, a pioneering project that redefines opera through innovative formats and new artistic languages.
With Òh!pera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Disseny Hub open the doors to a pioneering project that redefines the traditional concept of opera, embracing innovative formats that connect with the sensibilities of the 21st century. This initiative, which combines experimentation, interdisciplinarity, and creative risk, gives voice to new talents and artistic languages in a setting designed for surprise and reflection.
The project, under the guidance of Àlex Ollé, is based on the creation of short operas that, despite their brevity, preserve the essence of the genre: the fusion of music, dramaturgy, and stage direction. These works, conceived by emerging creators in collaboration with artists at more advanced stages of their careers, explore contemporary themes such as identity, technology, ecology, and social conflict, bringing audiences closer to realities that resonate with our everyday lives.
One of the most appealing aspects of this project is its commitment to exploring alternative spaces within the theatre, breaking down the barrier between audience and stage. Small rooms, unusual corners, or interactive spaces become settings where the works take on a more intimate and experimental dimension, offering the audience a close and surprising experience. This proximity is also reflected in the dialogue between disciplines: music, theatre, set design, audiovisuals, costume, and lighting converge to shape productions that connect with the sensibilities of contemporary audiences.
With Òh!pera, the Liceu and the Disseny Hub reaffirm their role as a driving force for cultural renewal in Catalonia and beyond. This laboratory of ideas and creation not only opens new paths for opera, but also invites the public to rethink the performing arts from a more open and participatory perspective. In this commitment to innovation and emerging talent, the Liceu breaks boundaries, reminding us that art should not only preserve tradition, but also serve as a platform to imagine the future.
