Praised by The Telegraph for a voice “like a golden thread of sound that can swell without strain to magnificence,” Samoan tenor Pene Pati has established himself as one of the leading singers of his generation. His career has taken him to many of the world’s foremost opera houses and festivals, including the Opéra national de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

A specialist in the French and Italian lyric repertoire, he has performed roles such as Faust, Roméo (Roméo et Juliette), Nadir (Les pêcheurs de perles), Des Grieux (Manon), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Alfredo (La traviata), Rodolfo (La bohème), the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Percy (Anna Bolena), Fernand (La Favorite), Tito (La clemenza di Tito) and Mitridate. He continues to expand his repertoire with new roles including Hoffmann (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and Werther.

His concert repertoire includes Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, the Requiems of Verdi, Mozart and Berlioz, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

A prizewinner at major international competitions including Operalia and Neue Stimmen, he studied at the Wales International Academy of Voice and was an Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera.

He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2018/19 season with The Smile of Montserrat Caballé and has since returned for the Sara Blanch and Pene Pati Recital and for Manon (2022/23).
