When space transforms, perception does too.
Visits: Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Penique productions is an artistic project founded at the University of Barcelona in 2007. After an initial period in Catalonia, it relocated to Rio de Janeiro in 2008, where it developed its work until 2024, when it returned to Catalonia and established itself in Vilanova de Bellpuig.
Based on the creation of inflatable, ephemeral installations, the project seeks to appropriate and transform spaces, offering a unique aesthetic experience. For each specific site, a custom-made inflatable structure is created to occupy the space and engage in dialogue with its architecture. The interplay between the inflatable, designed specifically for each location, and the space that contains it and gives it its final form, challenges the very notion of the artwork as an object.
On this occasion, Penique productions presents Superexposition at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, an installation that completely occupies the Main Hall. A huge orange inflatable fills the entire space, stretching from the stalls to the ceiling and from the stage to the balconies. Expanded by air pressure, a single membrane envelops the architecture, unifying its forms beneath the same texture and colour. The hall’s own warm lighting shapes its contours and reveals its recognisable architectural details.
The work transforms the Liceu’s Main Hall into a new space for discovery. The hall ceases to be merely the place from which a performance is watched and becomes the very centre of the experience. Visitors are invited to wander through this newly created environment and rediscover the Liceu’s architecture from an unprecedented perspective, where the boundaries between content and container dissolve.
