American tenor Peter Tantsits trained as a violinist before graduating in vocal studies from Yale University and the Oberlin Conservatory. Throughout his career, he has sung at major international venues such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Royal Opera House in London, the Salzburger Festspiele, La Monnaie in Brussels, New National Theater in Tokyo and with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Symphony. Peter works with many of the world's leading conductors including Sakari Oramo, Sir Simon Rattle, Kirill Petrenko, Thomas Adès, and Joana Mallwitz and stage directors including Calixto Bieito, Lydia Steier, Peter Sellars, Milo Rau, Ivo van Hove, William Kentridge and others.
His recent portrayal of Max Aue in Parra’s Les Bienveillantes in the world premiere for the Flemish Opera Antwerp earned him exceptional critical acclaim, including nomination for Opernwelt’s “Singer of the year.” His vast repertoire ranges from roles such as Nono’s Emigrante (Intolleranza), Herodes (Salome), Desportes (Die Soldaten), Aegisth (Elektra), Piet vom Fass (Le Grand Macabre), Erik (Der fliegende Holländer), Eumolpe (Perséphone) to Gandhi (Satyagraha), Perelà in Duspain’s Perelà - Uomo di Fumo, and Michael in Stockhausen’s Donnerstag aus Licht. In the 2024/25 season in addition to Walter Benjamin he creates the roles of Oscar Ekdahl (Fanny and Alexander) for La Monnaie and Ravel (La Main gauche) for the Festival Ravel Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2021/22 season with Wozzeck.
