Madama Butterfly is a lyrical tragedy in three acts that tells the story of Cio-Cio-San, a young Japanese geisha who falls in love with the American lieutenant Pinkerton. Pinkerton marries her according to local customs but does not take the marriage seriously. After his departure, Cio-Cio-San waits devotedly for his return, convinced he will come back. When Pinkerton finally arrives, he does so with his new American wife, causing Butterfly's emotional devastation and leading to a tragic ending.

This lecture aims to pay tribute to one of the most performed operas in the world, emphasizing unconditional love and naivety, the cultural clash between East and West, betrayal, and despair.
