Born in a family with a long musical tradition (Francis Poulenc was her great-great-uncle), Stéphanie d’Oustrac wanted to become an actress until she discovered she could devote herself to music and acting at the same time. She decided to take up opera after hearing a recital by Teresa Berganza.
The conductor William Christie supervised her training and she toured the United States and Asia with his ensemble, Les Arts Florissants. One of her chief roles outside the Baroque repertory is that of Carmen.
She made her debut at the Liceu with Mozart's La Clemenza Di Tito on the 2019/20 season.
