Tenor Viñas International Competition

64th edition of the competition that has introduced many of the leading voices of international opera

The tenor Francesc Viñas had always wanted to create a project that could help young singers.

The tenor Francesc Viñas had always wanted to create a project that could help young singers in the difficulties posed by the beginning of a singing career, which he himself experienced. This initiative was carried out by Dr. Jacint Vilardell in 1963, with the founding of the Tenor Viñas International Singing Competition. The Gran Teatre del Liceu immediately established a link with the competition, which has been maintained to this day. The theatre, in collaboration with some of the world’s leading opera houses, has organized sixty-three editions, in which more than 17,000 contestants have participated, and has brought to light many names that have become and remain references in the international opera world.

This year we celebrate the 64th competition and hope that the results will be as successful as those of previous editions.
