Valerio Contaldo is a lyric tenor known for his radiant, bronze timbre. He recently gained acclaim for his portrayal of the lead role in Monteverdi's Orfeo, which took him to venues worldwide, including Barcelona, Beijing, Paris, and São Paulo. Critics praised his expressiveness and flexibility. 

In the 2024/25 season, Contaldo will debut as Tristan in Frank Martin’s Le Vin Herbé and will appear in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria and Orfeo. He is in high demand for Bach's oratorios, performing in notable productions across Europe. Highlights of the 2023/24 season included his debut at Teatro alla Scala and various roles in major festivals and opera houses. Contaldo has collaborated with renowned conductors and performed at prestigious venues such as the Opéra de Paris, Teatro La Fenice, and the Teatro Colón. His notable recordings include Monteverdi's L’Orfeo and Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria, as well as Bach's B minor Mass

Born in Italy and raised in Switzerland, he trained as a classical guitarist and studied singing, earning a Master's degree. His career as a soloist began after reaching the finals of the Leipzig Bach Competition in 2008.

He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2022/23 season with Alcina.
