She began her musical training at the age of seven, playing the violin and piano. She was a member of the Staatsoper Hamburg from 2001 to 2007 and is currently a regular performer at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Royal Opera House in London, Opéra National de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and Wiener Staatsoper. Her current repertoire includes the roles of Tosca, Butterfly, Santuzza, Micaëla (Carmen), Mimì (La bohème), Liù (Turandot), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Desdemona (Otello), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Rachel (La juive), and Elisabeta di Valois (Don Carlo). Other signature roles include Gilda (Rigoletto), Violetta (La traviata), Lucia di Lammermoor, Adina (L’elisir d’amore), and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia). She has worked with conductors such as Ivor Bolton, Bruno Campanella, James Conlon, Sir Andrew Davis, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Fabio Luisi, Ingo Metzmacher, Daniel Oren, and Antonio Pappano.

She made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2012/13 season with L’elisir d’amore and returned with Pagliacci (2019/20).
