Heitor Villa-Lobos and Philip Glass with a Projection of Sebastião Salgado's Work

On November 26, the Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu will present the extraordinary concert Amazônia by Sebastião Salgado as part of a broader project by the Brazilian photographer. Over the past seven years, Salgado has explored the Amazon, documenting its landscapes and the lives of its inhabitants.

During the concert, the music will be accompanied by a projection of over 200 images by the renowned photographer, celebrating the beauty of nature while highlighting the urgent need to preserve this unique environment. Approaching his eightieth birthday and more active than ever, Brazilian artist Sebastião Salgado is one of the most awarded and internationally acclaimed contemporary photographers.

Alongside the thematic exhibition being presented in Barcelona, Salgado uses his work to spotlight the fragility of the world and make a compelling call to respect and care for it.

The rhythmic musical program features, as its centerpiece, Villa-Lobos’ A floresta do Amazonas suite, derived from the soundtrack of Mel Ferrer’s film Green Mansions.

This exuberant, tropical music evokes the singing of rivers and the vast seas of Brazil, vividly portraying the lushness of the Amazon rainforest. Salgado’s stunning black-and-white images will reveal the immensity of the Amazon: endless forests, impossible river bends, and the breathtaking portraits of the indigenous people who inhabit these lands. These images include depictions of over 200 tribes, some of whom have no contact with the outside world.
