Carlos Álvarez, the charismatic baritone from Malaga, returns to the Liceu where he has already triumphed in such titles as Rigoletto and Don Giovanni (2016/17), Un ballo in maschera (2017/18) and Hamlet (2018/19).
Though he originally studied medicine, he has devoted his life to singing and worked in the world's leading opera houses in New York, Vienna, Paris, Milan and other cities. He has won two Grammys (in 2001 and 2005).
The jury of the Critics' Awards run by Amics del Liceu twice proclaimed him the best male singer of the season for his performances as Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier, 2014) and Jago (Otello, 2015) at the Peralada Castle Festival.
