Giacomo Prestia was born in Florence and made a notable debut as Philip II in Marseille in 1997 and in La forza del destino under the direction of Muti at La Scala in 1999. He has established himself as a bass with a Verdi vocality, reaching notes such as E-flat below the staff.
His career has led him to collaborate with prestigious conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Myung-Whun Chung, Zubin Mehta, and Riccardo Muti, and he has worked with renowned directors like Zeffirelli and Krief. Among his recent achievements are his debut in I Vespri Siciliani at the Teatro Regio di Parma in 2010 and the role of Méphistophélès in Pisa and Lucca in 2016. In 2018, he excelled in La Gioconda at the Emilia Romagna Theaters and in Macbeth at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie. In 2019 he reprised the role of Fiesco at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. In January 2020, he received the Verdi d’Oro and in December the Galeone d’oro 2020 career award. In 2021 he celebrated his 30 years career at the Magnani theater in Fidenza playing Philip II. In 2022 he was Banco in Macbeth in Nice and Antibes, and Oroveso in Norma in Oviedo. He ended the year with Aida in La Coruña, Rigoletto and La forza del destino at the Magnani theater in Fidenza.
He debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2005/06 season with Nabucco and has returned with Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Carlos, and Norma (2006/07), Luisa Miller (2007/08), Simon Boccanegra (2008/09), and the 175th anniversary concert (2021/22).
