El monstre al laberint

El monstre al laberint

A powerful and transformative artistic experience

Within the framework of the LiceuAprèn educational program promoted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu, one of the most significant lines of action in the coming seasons will be participatory projects: offering young people from different schools and educational centers the opportunity to take part in the process of creating an opera alongside a professional artistic team, culminating in a performance at the theatre’s Sala Gran.

El monstre al laberint is an opera by Jonathan Dove, commissioned by Simon Rattle with the London Symphony Orchestra, and conceived as a participatory opera, with the idea that teenagers and young people could share the stage with professional musicians and performing artists.

For his part, Paco Azorín, who has been commissioned by the Gran Teatre del Liceu to direct El monstre al laberint, has sought to give the work a very contemporary reading, drawing a parallel between the myth of Theseus (the opera’s storyline) and the reality of migration and refugees.

This artistic interpretation by Paco Azorín makes it possible to develop, around El monstre al laberint, a comprehensive educational project that includes, in addition to the musical and artistic work, a connection with different fields of knowledge, a link to current issues, and above all, invites young people to engage in a critical reflection so necessary in today’s world.

Therefore, respecting the singularities of each school and their respective educational projects, LiceuAprèn will seek to support them so that the experience of El monstre al laberint becomes a powerful and transformative artistic experience for the participating students and, as far as possible, for the schools themselves.
