Barcelona, March 18, 2024. The Gran Teatre del Liceu brings together three great international names, Gustavo Dudamel, Nadine Sierra, and Juan Diego Flórez, to offer two extraordinary concerts of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story during the 24/25 season of the Theater, which will be fully announced to the media on April 19th.

Leonard Bernstein, one of the most emblematic names in the musical history of the United States, created a masterpiece in West Side Story. This musical, premiered in 1957, continues to be a powerful exploration of human emotions set in the context of urban rivalry. With lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a libretto by Arthur Laurents, the work received unanimous praise and won ten Oscars when it was adapted for film in 1961.

One of the few classical musicians transformed into a genuine cultural phenomenon, in 2021, Gustavo Dudamel conducted Bernstein's legendary score for Steven Spielberg's new musical adaptation of West Side Story. Spielberg chose Gustavo Dudamel as musical director to bring his characteristic energy to the iconic score and the New York Philharmonic, the orchestra of which Bernstein was the conductor.

An iconic score that will bring to the stage the emotions of a young couple, but, in the manner of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, have their clandestine relationship denied by their own warring clans. A dream pursued that unfortunately only the death of one of them will show the community that they are obliged to understand each other and that hatred is a poison against which there is no antidote.

The concert will be outside of subscription and tickets can be purchased during the preferential sales period for Liceu subscribers with a 15% discount starting on June 12th. General public sales will open on June 19th.
