Barcelona, March 8, 2024. The Liceu expands its Òh!pera project to Chile, marking its first international edition in collaboration with the prestigious Teatro Biobío and with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull and Ópera Latinoamérica.
From April to November, a team of artists, led by composer Marian Márquez, stage director Alicia Serrat, and under the supervision of Àlex Ollé, mentor of the project, will carry out the creation and presentation of the micro-opera "Hijas del mundo" (Daughters of the World). This proposal will be performed within the Teatro Biobío, and will involve local artists: singers, musicians, and teams from the theater itself. University students from the city will also participate in the creation process of the scenery and costumes.
"The collaboration with Teatro Biobío is fundamental, as it allows us to establish a round trip journey, where we can share, develop creations, and grow together throughout the process. By bringing together two leading facilities in supporting creation, this project is a fantastic manifestation of the willingness to provide opportunities to new talents," says Valentí Oviedo, general director of the Liceu.
On the other hand, Àlex Ollé expresses: "The Òh!pera project was born with the aim of being the gateway to the world of opera for young creators from all artistic fields: composers, librettists, stage directors, singers, musicians, lighting designers, students from design schools... The ultimate goal is, on one hand, to generate a new pool of creators and on the other, to attract new audiences, especially the younger audience."
This July, the third edition of the ÒH!PERA project, Micro-operas of new creation, will take place at the Liceu, an initiative promoted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Tourism and Creative Industries Council of the Barcelona City Council, through Disseny Hub Barcelona, and the main design schools in the city.
The aim of the ÒH!PERA project is to complement the training of young people from creative disciplines in the city of Barcelona and provide them with learning in a real environment, having an experience with the operatic genre and its professionals. The mission of this initiative includes accompanying and supporting artistic creation, providing spaces and resources that serve as a field of experimentation based on rigor, demand, and quality of the projects. Students thus experience a practical and professional experience, participating in a creative process from the beginning to the premiere. Opening the world of opera to new perspectives allows us to renew the language and shape opera for the 21st century.
Òh!pera is an initiative that extends beyond the walls of the theater and has managed to link different institutions, audiences, and artistic fields in the city of Barcelona. This collaboration and alliance project between institutions and academia aims to be a showcase to showcase the emerging talent of a new generation and project it internationally, in order to create a network of exchanges and artistic collaborations.
