Nadine Sierra performs her first solo recital at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona

Barcelona, April 2, 2025

Soprano Nadine Sierra will offer a unique concert on the stage of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, where she will present a selection of arias dedicated to the history of international opera. The program will combine arias from the great operatic repertoire with popular songs and iconic melodies, spanning from Mozart’s classical opera to Donizetti’s bel canto and the Romanticism of Verdi and Puccini.

For the first time, the Liceu welcomes Nadine Sierra for a solo performance on the theater’s stage, one of the most outstanding sopranos on today’s international scene, in a unique concert on April 6.

Maestro Pablo Mielgo will conduct the Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in a program that offers an exciting musical journey through the international operatic tradition. After the overture of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, the audience will enjoy a sequence of arias and pieces dedicated to Italian opera, spanning from the refinement of bel canto to the expressive power of Romanticism.

Highlights include Deh vieni, non tardar from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, So anch’io la virtù magica… from Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, and Regnava nel silenzio from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, one of the most emblematic arias of bel canto. Also featured is È strano ... sempre libera ... from Verdi’s La traviata, a piece of great virtuosity and dramatic intensity.

The second part continues with pieces of strong emotional impact, such as Vissi d’arte from Puccini’s Tosca, which reflects the dramatic emotion and expressiveness of operatic verismo. The Intermezzo from Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana will provide a moment of great lyrical beauty, while Depuis le jour from Charpentier’s Louise and Je veux vivre from Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette will bring brilliance and delicacy to the program.

From this point, the repertoire takes a more diverse and lighthearted turn, featuring the prelude from the zarzuela El tambor de granaderos by Ruperto Chapí and the aria Me llaman la primorosa from El barbero de Sevilla by Nieto and Giménez, a showcase of vocal virtuosity within the zarzuela genre. The evening will conclude with a selection full of energy and popular rhythms: the famous romantic song Bésame mucho by Consuelo Velázquez and the iconic I Feel Pretty from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.
