Her first solo recital at the Liceu

Winner of the Best Artist of the Year award at the International Classical Music Awards

Born in Albania, Ermonela Jaho is synonymous with pure emotion. The Liceu hosts her first solo recital at the theatre after being crowned as one of the queens of this stage. Winner of the Best Artist of the Year award at the International Classical Music Awards, Jaho arrives at the Liceu after achieving significant success at the Met in New York.

After taking her first singing lessons at just 6 years old, at 14 she was taken to the Tirana Opera to see La Traviata: a seminal moment in which she decided to become an opera singer. By the time she was 19, she was already in Rome to continue her studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

Her vibrant performances and exceptional connection with the roles she portrays make Ermonela Jaho an unforgettable singer.

Ovationed in the greatest theatres of the circuit, she has been described as "one of the great interpreters of verismo" and "an unstoppable phenomenon." Her credo is that "to make others cry, you must first cry yourself." This personal maxim is evident in the two heroines she has sung most often: Butterfly and Traviata (more than thirty productions of both titles).

The Liceu has been fortunate to present her in the tragic rituals of Cio-Cio San, Desdémona, Antonia, Violetta, Liù, and Suor Angelica.

With a carefully curated program, featuring bel canto composers and representative figures of French and Italian Romanticism, we stand to applaud this sensitive and unique artist, synonymous with goosebumps.
