Born in Avià, he studied singing at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) before furthering his training at the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe. He also holds a degree in theatrical performance from the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona.
His repertoire ranges from Cavalli to Monteverdi, covering Baroque opera as well as contemporary works. Throughout his career, he has performed in renowned theaters such as the Teatro Real in Madrid, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Theater an der Wien, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Wiener Staatsoper.
On the opera stage this season Xavier takes on the title role in Handel’s Orlando for Oper Köln and various roles in a new production titled I Grotteschi including music by Claudio Monteverdi from L’Orfeo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and L’incoronazione di Poppea at La Monnaie, which is directed by Rafael R. Villalobos and conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón.
He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2008/09 season with L’incoronazione di Poppea and has since returned for L’enigma di Lea and Agrippina (2018/19), Pierrot Lunaire (2021/22), and Alexina B. and L’incoronazione di Poppea (2022/23).
