Born in Girona, Gemma Coma-Alabert won first prize at the National Conservatory of Paris, continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London, and joined the Opéra National de Lyon's studio.
Gemma’s repertoire includes roles such as Carmen, Ottavia, Dorabella, Isaura, and Teresa (La Sonnambula). She has performed in prestigious opera houses such as the Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris, Teatro Real, Palau de les Arts, Opera of Bilbao, National Opera of Montpellier, among others. She has collaborated with orchestras like the London Philharmonic Orchestra, ORCAM, RTVE Orchestra, and OBC, among others. She has worked with conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Lawrence Foster, Zubin Mehta, and stage directors like Peter Brook, Claus Guth, and Krzysztof Warlikowski. Her training and musicality have enabled her to interpret works by contemporary composers like In the Beginning by Aaron Copland and Hour of the Soul by Sofia Gubaidulina. In the field of contemporary opera, she has performed in Nixon in China by John Adams, Lessons in Love and Violence by George Benjamin, among others. In the recording industry, she has recorded more than twenty CDs and DVDs with labels like Naxos, K617, Harmonia Mundi, etc.
She made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2003/04 season with L’enfant et les sortilèges, and has returned many times, most recently with El Pessebre (2015/16), Le nozze di Figaro, Rigoletto, and Mozart's Requiem (2016/17), Andrea Chénier (2017/18), Luisa Miller (2018/19), Lessons in Love and Violence, La traviata, the concert Sondra Radvanovsky: Las tres reinas (2020/21), Pikovaia dama, Die Zauberflöte (2021/22), and Macbeth (2022/23).
